The Comparison Trap

It can be easy to wish your life was different. It can seem like everyone’s life is better then yours. We can start comparing our lives with other people through social media or even talking to others and through that we can feel discouraged about our own life. We can start to feel envious or jealous of someone’s life and start undermining the value of our own life. We start to question why certain things had to happen in our life or why certain things haven’t yet happend in our life. It can feel like everyone else is living a perfect life or better life then we are.
After David killed Goliath, he garned much attention from the Isralites. The Isralite woman praised David in a song that his success was ten times greater than all of Saul’s successes. This praise for David provoked jealousy from Saul. Saul became obsessed with killing David and used every opportunity that he could to take David’s life.
Like Saul, we can be jealous of others and we can waste our time and energy trying to get things they have or living the life they have. When we start comparing ourselves and try to be something other then what God has called us to be, we become lesser versions of our true potential. We rob ourselves of our own destiny.
We are not called to live the life someone else has or acquire the things they do. We are called to run our own race well and fulfill the purpose that God has ordained for us.
When we focus on our own journey and use that energy to fix, heal ,and grow ourselves, we will not only run our race well but we will accomplish the will of God in our lives that only we can fulfill.
With Christ’s love,
